Birthday recap and Friend Makin' Monday :)

This weekend the Hubs turned 39, I had decided to get a small get together for him and it turned out great. The kick of it was that I have been  tracking my food, not so much  as dieting but to see what I am putting in my body, consequently I have been making better choices. I didn't even notice until my oldest mentioned that almost everything I made for the gathering was healthy: a fruit salad, Humus, homemade Salsa (the best ever, seriously) AND everyone ate everything and where asking for recipes! Yes, we had a taco dip and regular Dominican cake but it felt so good that everyone was on board with the healthy choices, go figure. The Hubs was so happy, he loves having people over and spending time with all of us.

So let's jump to this week's FMM:

Another FFM

I am lazy.
This is my new post,  Now let’s get to this week’s topic!

TV, Movies and Me
1. If you could be a recurring star on a show that is currently on TV, which show would you choose?  Game of Thrones, Hannibal,  Grimm or Elementary. Geez I can't pick one. OK maybe I'll go old school and pick Law & Order: SVU (see a theme here?)

2. Name the movie that you are most embarrassed to admit that you love. None since I proudly announce that I like all sorts of movies, I'm easily entertained no matter how silly/stupid. But people get a little shocked when I say Rocky IV is one of my favorite movies of all time.
3. Name one show that you’ve never seen and would love to watch. Dexter. My kind of show and I have no clue why I never watch it.
4. Do you ever go to movies alone?  Absolutely. I remember going to see the Lake House and call Hubs afterwards to tell him how awesome it was. Love having a date with myself :)
5. If you could only watch one TV show for the next year, which show would you choose and why?  Maybe The Talk because I love how  they talk about everything and they are so funny. I can watch Agatha Christie's forever too.
6. If you could star in one reality show, which one would it be and why? The only reality show I watch is the Real Housewives (except the Miami one) -don't judge. It would be hysterical but I don't qualify for it :)
7. If someone rented a billboard for you, what would it say?  I would like to think I would choose some inspirational quote about moving on and letting go, but I am in the process of healing and a little angry still so probably something among the lines of "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and F*YOU!"
8. Who is the most famous person with whom you have been in the same room? none so far, but oh I pray to see Keanu Reeves one day. I'ts going to take an army to get me away from him.
9. If you were chosen to be a contestant on a TV game show, which show would you want to be on?  Let's make a deal since I love the host
10. If there was a movie being made about you, which actor would you choose to play you? Rebel Wilson or Ana Faris, we don't look anything alike but she has to be funny and able to make a fool of herself.

Now go on, is your turn.

Friend Makin’ Mondays: Childhood Flashbacks

This weekend was full on: Friday we took the little guy (along with some Family that came from abroad and my SIL and BOL),downtown to NY Museum of Natural History, our little Dino buff kiddo was going INSANE which was awesome to watch. He had been several times to the ones in DC but this time it was so different for him, guess he is getting bigger. We also walked around, had lunch and ended up in Central Park.

Saturday night I went to Ladies Night for "Romance" articles. it was awesome, funny, the girls where very hilarious, great drinks, great food and we had a blast. And yes, there was some shopping done *wink*. Overall this weekend was awesome and I enjoyed having family around and just hanging with the girls   so  what better way to start a Monday than with:

Childhood Flashbacks
1. Did you have a set bedtime as a child?  If so, what was it? Yes, but  not that early (9pm?) since we attended an afternoon Program at a Private School
2. Were you taught to be a member of the “Clean Plate Club?” Did it have affect your eating habits as an adult?  not really, we where told not to waste food but the few times I remember my Mom forcing me to finish was when I specifically asked her to make me something and then didn't want to eat it.
3. Share one thing that you were not allowed to do as a child. watch scary movies, I had to cover my eyes when people kissed on TV, must not cut my own hair (yeah, I tried), no jumping or screaming or loud music on Holy week, no 2 piece bathing suits (that was mostly my Dad) We had TONS of rules.
4. What is the cheapest gas price you can remember?  I remember when I was in college (17) and my father used to give us $100 pesos (about $3 dollars now) and I would fill up the tank of my Honda Civic. 20 years brings a LOT of change.
5. What was your favorite thing on the playground? no play ground, we rode our bikes, we play tag, we climbed trees to get fruit, I just loved hanging out with my friends.
6. Share one thing that your parents always made you do that you didn't like doing.  I guess  cooking (I like it now) by the time I was 10 I was a pro at cleaning and have been loving  it ever since; but Cooking not so much.
7. Do you remember your first kiss?  If so, share the details!  I was 10, his name is Anthony and he is still a friend thru FB. We were the same age, he and another boy asked me out to be his "girl", I picked him and he gave me a tap kiss on the alley next door to my house.
8. Did you prefer to play inside or outside? outside, all the time.  I grew up in the Caribbean  there was nothing I wanted to do more than to be outside playing.
9. What was your favorite TV show growing up? not much since I was outside all the time. I did love Punky Brewster, Different Strokes and some Spanish show called "El Chavo"about neighborhood kids in Mexico.
10. Share one awesome childhood memory.  Always going to the beach, some times it was just for the day and we will bring our own picnic; others we would spent a whole week in a resort with a lot of our families, cousins, etc. it was AWESOME and I  realized how lucky we where to be able to do that all the time.
Bonus: Share a picture of yourself as a child.  My 3rd Birthday :)

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions!  Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments!  Happy Monday, my friends!

FFM- rejoining :)

I am going to try to post more on here (as you saw from my last post earlier today) and what better way than joining FMM again!

 Ten Questions
1. Describe the kind of home you would live in if money were no object.  I always though I was going to have a beautiful home in the suburbs with a wraparound porch and a big yard...that has change to a Brownstone in NYC, where I can walk out Carrie style to grab a cab to join my girls for brunch.
2. Are you more conservative in your actions or more rebellious? definitely rebellious. I like to think outside the box, I like interesting an unique things and people, I like making others laugh; I like to dance on the street and jump in puddles. I am also very open minded.
3. Would you go to Mars even if it meant you could never return to Earth?  Nope, even if I could come back, I have no desire to go to  outer space.
4. Name one song that makes you want to dance every time you hear it. the Macarena and Ricky Martin Living la vida Loca! and believe me I do get up and dance no matter where I am
5. Share one thing that you wish you could go back and do differently in your life.  I am going with Kenley and saying being more honest and speak up my mind more. I think of others feelings even when they are not thinking of mine and that is not healthy.
6. Share at least one accomplishment that people wouldn't expect you to be proud of.  I can paint well, I can master organizing things and I can do my makeup really well.
7. Describe one delicious thing that you've eaten lately.   A bruschetta Panini from this little Italian place we just found and some shrimp cakes the chef at work made.
8. If you had a theme song that would play every time you entered a room, which song would you choose?  Elevation from U2.
9. Had technology enhanced your life, or has it over complicated your life?  not much either way, I don't even have a cell phone. I do love my internet and browsing in the tablet and I know things are more convenient now.
10. If you could get paid to do any job, which job would you choose?  Makeup Artist or cosmetologist, or some sort of Organizing pro.
Now is you turn!

I'm not a blogger

Yes,in case you haven't figure that out I am not a blogger.
I do not have the time to write and be all cohesive and have pretty photos for you. I do want to get a camera and show you real NYC life, real lets get on the train with everyone is avoiding only to  find a homeless guy puking his brains out, or lets figure it out why Duane Reade has such a cool selection of makeup. I want so share that I found a little place that makes the best paninis in the Bronx, or how when you are going downtown you should switch from the 1 train to the A 'cause is faster.

There has been a lot of changes, as you know and I'm excited of all of them, even the ones that scare me. I'm learning to trust life, God, divinity and my gut. Things happen and you  can either dwell on them or rejoice on the opportunity to change things, to have adventures and to learn new things. Like not to wear heels all the time no matter how downtown cool it may look.

Last year was a difficult one, you all know that from all my sad little post. But I'm ok with that. I am owning up to say it was ALL OUR FAULT everything that happened to use. We are responsible and should own up to those facts. But I also realize other people should  be held  accountable for their actions, for being awful with us for giving us their back, for treating us poorly, for showing their true colors. They have EVERY right to be that way, and I have every  right to not tolerate that, to move on and don't take their shit, to not make an effort for anyone that is not willing to make that effort to me.

It is really sad to leave people in the past and behind you, people you once loved so much. But the lesson remains: not  everyone  is meant to be with you forever.

I just want to say my piece and be done with it, move on and just share how much I am enjoying  living here. Finding new places to shop, a new beauty place, going for deals at Target but I haven't been able to do that, I discovered I am still angry and hurt and it will take me a little while until I can post and not talk about the same thing over and over, so I  opted for not posting. Does it makes sense? probably not but that is me, I don't make sense must of the time :)

But things are changing and hearts are mending, spring is coming and with it a new perspective.

I hope I can get it all in photos.

The Wardrobe

After being without a job for 2 years I have found I pretty much do not have ANYTHING to wear to work. OK, I may have some basic pieces but the majority of my clothes are either stained or eaten (from being in  storage) or in serious need of replacement (I am looking at you grey pants). I also got rid of an insanity of clothing I have been keeping for God knows what.
Seriously, the dress from my cousin's wedding from 10 yrs ago (way fancy and long, and I would never be able to wear it any where else), things that did not fit properly, items that I got as gift that look horrible on me...etc. I believe the total count was 3 massive Black plastic bags (the one's use for the outdoors).

I still have a teeny tiny closet, but when I Google or look on pinterest for tiny closets they look like mansions compare to mine. Yeah, that tiny. But I am making it work.

First, I decided that what I have does not work for me. I spent way too much time and effort to put an item together, and more time's than not I am not happy with what I am wearing or what I look like. SO I bought this ebook (mentioned before)The No brainer wardrobe. and decided I need pieces that work together for work, but that I can also alter to work on weekends.

Then I found this amazeballs blog: Putting me together and it has change my world. I cannot wait to go home and work somethings together. She is so fab and I love that I can see 7 different outfits using one key piece, like this:
She is amazing! Please go check her out.

I have started shopping for key pieces such as a white button shirt, a chambray shirt (Old Navy) so each paycheck I will get 1-2 pieces that can work with what I have. I cannot wait to try more of her tips.

My goal is to be all set up by Summer! wish me luck.

Guess what? I'm alive

Happy Presidents day!

I am so glad I get an extra day to be home, Saturday we had family over and we didnt get to bed until after 3am! I made a dessert from the homeland and it was amazing (it's made out of red beans) and enjoyed some Valentine's themed movies.

I know It has been the norm for me not to write in this blog.Is not so much that I don't have time (which I do not have much)but more of what to write about. I wanted to write about living in NYC, what I see everyday and the new job and all, but it all seems so silly when my camera has died (not completely but is not worth it, focus is off, etc) so I can't really show you much.

I am planning on saving some $$ to get one rather soon but until then it seems boring to have post and no photos (and in case you didn't know I don't have a cell phone, in NYC,in these times, I get it, and no I don't have one).

(above is the area where I work, no..not Macy's, but across the street from it)

The things that I have learn so far:

1.New York men will pretend to fall asleep in the train so they don't seem like jackasses for not giving up their seats.(I am still young but so many times I have to give my seat to the elderly or pregnant ladies because these guys wont).

2.People will run you over in NYC. I don't walk fast and I don't rush or run to catch the train, there is always one behind. Apparently people don't know this because they will seriously push you out to get to one. Same thing walking downtown. I must look like a lost soul since I am always looking at the buildings and everything around me rather than rushing.

3. In case you think people are kidding EVERYTHING is more expensive here. Going to the market makes "me heart flutter". But you can find ANYTHING at ANY time.

4.Life can be good in NYC. Lots of family around, people visiting, gatherings. It has been good to us so far. (Both the Hubs and I have new jobs- he started today).

5.I am really not a health food fanatic. We have a chef at work that cooks healthy and balance meals (which makes me insane), and even though they have fruits and snacks for us by 3pm I am dying for a snickers bar. Some day I do hope to get used to it. Hecks, I am saving some major cash with their food since is free. Oh, Quinoa how I loathe you.

6. SHOPPING IS FUN! there is so much to see. So many places with cool unique things, plus is enjoyable just to window shop. I am downtown now and is so easy to pop to a store at lunch break.

7. There is always something to do around here.

8.Old buildings are gorgeous, unless you have plaster walls and old heating appliances, they are nuisance.

9.I am glad we came around to a place that has a lot more culture than before, there is a lot more Spanish people around us and I hope the little guy will pick more of it now.

10. IT'S NEW YORK BABY!

I have to say change has been good so far, there are things that I miss a lot from our former home, but I also appreciate things that I have now and I am glad to be rid of some other things that I was holding on and where really not good for me.

So there you have it, that's all that I've been up to. Job is good and busy, for the most part everyone is super nice, except for one person that annoys the crap out of me but just because we have different personalities, not because we have any issues per say.

So off I go to finish cleaning the house, then off to lunch with the kiddo and then the market.
